Throughout 2012 and early 2013, a group of forty-four individuals affected by NF2, led by Jessica Cook, worked together to produce an awareness raising book of inspirational life stories. NF2: Our Journeys was published in July of 2013 to prove to those isolated by the condition that they are not alone and that the illness does not define them.
Following the success of the book, Jessica established Can You Hear Us? (CYHU) as a Community Interest Company (C.I.C) in December 2013 with the aim of building a supportive and sustainable community for people affected by NF2 in the UK. Other projects then came to life, including; monthly support groups on days when patients are anticipating updates on their health, an online community forum for NF2ers and their families to connect, and informal social events that bring people together from around (and sometimes outside of) the UK.
In order to help manage existing services and initiate new ones, a few individuals with first-hand experience of NF2 and specific skills were added to the CYHU team; enabling the organisation to continue developing innovative solutions to social and well-being issues. You can meet the team here.

As a Community Interest Company (C.I.C) Can You Hear Us? exists to benefit the community rather than the individuals, who own, run or work within it. Users of goods and services provided by a CIC will be investing in the ongoing sustainability of the organisation. Cash reserves built up out of profits are available for the benefit of the community or reinvestment in the company.
