Can You Hear Us? C.I.C (CYHU) organise social events to provide opportunities for people to meet and have fun with others affected by NF2.
Our next social event is taking place at The Regent’s Benugo Cafe in central London on Saturday 29th April 2017 10am – 5pm. Click here or on the poster for more details…
WEEKEND SOCIAL GATHERING
Every summer a three day gathering takes place in central England and will include visits to local attractions as well as the chance for NF2ers to challenge themselves with something new.
At CYHU we encourage people living with NF2 to build positive beliefs towards their abilities, with the aim of improving confidence and self-esteem. We do this by creating a supportive environment and working with experienced instructors to ensure that all activities can be adapted to individual needs. Take a look at our Past Events and Transcripts page to see what we have been up to over the years!
In addition to our summer gathering, CYHU also organise two single-day socials – one in spring and one in autumn – which take place around the northern and southern regions. These events are structured as a drop-in day, allowing people to arrive at any time from 10am. Approximately one hour will be spent looking around a local attraction but otherwise the day is simply dedicated to time to chat with other NF2 patients and their families in a relaxed atmosphere.
Each social event ultimately aims to reduce the effects of isolation by building a strong community for people affected by NF2 in the UK.
“Little did I know that it [the 2014 Summer Gathering] would be one of the happiest moments of my life. I was able to make friends easily and fast, which since losing my hearing has been almost impossible. I never felt stupid, demeaned or overcome by my condition (something quite common in day-to-day life), and find it ironic that I was able to let go of a lot of my fears and stresses regarding my illness while being in an environment where I was surrounded by it.” (Sofia, 26, London, UK)
